The presentation speaks about the environmentally and economically sustainable livelihoods created due to the watershed treatment and capacity building of the people. After treatment of the sloped lands consisting of pasture and crop cultivated area the ground water was recharged; fodder grasses got enhanced which contributed to the milk yield of the animals. Crop enhancement was observed as a result of farm bunds developed on the crop lands.

Climate Proofing Learning

The climate proofing learnings present the adapted practices leading to strengthen the climate change adaptation practices in the watershed area of Udaipur. The planning of the activities was done with participatory approach. The results demonstrated the best use of adaptation practices which were supplementary to the exiting treatment work. Gully plug with recharge pit, gradonis, biogas, fodder bank, CCT, etc. were the activities which were treated as climate proofing measures.

Food Security Presentation

Lack of traditional grains and practices associated with it has health problems both to the human beings and soil. With the advent of monocroppingin in various regions of India the traditional grains have been completed wiped off. The traditional grains consisted mainly of minor millets which were rich in protein and amino acid contents in comparison to the cereals. The project on improving food security addresses the tribal community to reintroduce the minor millets in the villages. In this way the traditional agriculture will address the dry land farming measures. The activities under the project are formation of seed grain banks, nutrition garden, Self Help Group formation, Biodiversity Management Committees, Capacity Building Trainings.

Khanatalab

The Khanatalab is a watershed area of 815 ha which has undergone through land treatment. The presentation describes the results of the treatment work. Main water harvesting and recharge was accomplished due to NADI development. Recharge pits in the pasture land contributed to the vegetation growth. CCT and SCT activities resulted in in-situ conservation of the fodder grasses.

The presentation deals with interpreting the Direct Proposal Report under the project of Incorporating NRM into MGNREGA. The DPR speaks about the village profile thus ascertains the planning of NRM activities on commons and individual land. Gram Panchayat took active part in mobilizing the communities to form institutions for participatory planning and water budgeting. The hill slopes and water harvesting capacities of the structures was calculated with the help of internationally accepted formula.

T.Prayatna Samiti endeavours to conserve the indigenous crops by promoting their sale through Indigenous Stores of Rajasthan. The profits generated will encourage farmers to cultivate the indigenous crops, thus conserving the traditional practices. Production of such crops in other parts of the country will increase biodiversity and promote food security.
